In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Careful.”
I was dreaming all of my life about the possibility to touch at least once this beautiful bird. As it is known, swans are pretty aggressive and very strong animals. But I realized this wild and rough nature only by my beloved Gus (my finger were many times injured by Gus teeth when he tried to catch the food also he showed me his strength when he beat me with his wing at one point). I spent three years visiting and taking pictures of him and his family.
One day I was taking my usually walk with my children at the river when I saw this swan baby and it was just strange to me that it is sitting in the grass while the siblings and parents are swimming in the river nearby. I came closer and I saw its foot was injured. I tried to talk to the swan baby and doing very slowly motions I got closer and closer. The swan was a little afraid but allowed me to touch its head and gentle caress it. It was an amazing feeling and I felt blessed. The feather were soft and I could easily take care of the injured foot. Gus, the father, wanted to came out of the water but I talked to him and “explained him” I won´t hurt his baby. I don´t know if he “understood” it or already knew me by some way but he allowed me to continue and watched me from the water. In a short while his baby stand up and did few steps then sat on the water and followed its family. It was an amazing experience and I am very grateful for it.
